“Timeless landscapes”

Like all the best photographs, even those we consider beautiful because they seem reassuring, Guido Profumo’s paintings tend to ask questions instead of giving answers. The aim of the artist, in fact, is also, or basically, a renewed and impossible attempt to give answers that are in some way definitive to pressing existential questions. When Profumo finishes one of his paintings we imagine that he is pacified, pleased to have removed all cause for anxiety. But the day after we also imagine that he is immediately goes to the attack on a new canvas with renewed joy.

His paintings call to mind a beautiful poem by Giorgio Caproni:

If you wish to find yourselves,
get lost in the forest.
