“And while the world falls apart
I compose new spaces and desires that
belong also to you
who have always been the essential thing to me.”
Marco Mengoni

Essence was a metaphysical concept which by definition was unprovable. For thousands of years it has been – together with the question what knowledge is – one of the central themes of all classical philosophy. This concept alluded to a reality that went beyond experience, rational thought and the senses.

In these days, as western civilization finds that it is lost and fragile, as we ask ourselves how future society and its models will be, it is neither presumption nor divination to foresee a return to the essential, whatever the form and substance we are able to give it under this name.
